Spring 2

In Literacy, we will continue with The Explorer by Katherine Rundell as Fred, Max, Lila and Con come face-to-face with the mysterious explorer. But will he help them or is he hiding some dark secrets?

As an accompaniment to the text, our classes will be journeying deep into the heart of the rainforest, finding out about the life and plants that exist in the fragile layers and what we can do to help sustain their survival. The Green Planet, currently airing on BBC One, is an excellent place to start! https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0013cl7

In maths, we are continuing to build on our knowledge of fractions starting with equivalent fractions. A good starting point for support at home can be found here https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdwxnb.

We are also SUPER KEEN to help our learners increase their knowledge of Times Tables! Pupils are encouraged to use TT Rockstars or My Maths to help them sharpen these skills!

In science, we will be studying habitats and recognising that our world needs a variety of habitats to ensure that all living things have somewhere to live and prosper. We will also explore why many habitats are in danger due to some human activities and how we can positively work to sustain life and ensure our planet is fit for future generations.

In P.E., we will be going swimming every Tuesday so be sure to have your swimming kits at the ready.

Thanks for all your wonderful support and we look forward to catching up and supporting you on our exciting learning journey.

Spring 1

This half term we will be studying The Explorer by Katherine Rundell as our class novel, which won the Costa Children’s Book of the Year 2017. A wild adventure, The Explorer nods to storytelling’s golden age and tells the story of a crashed plane and an epic struggle for survival and mystery.

Our classes will be exploring the legacy of the Mighty Tudors, focussing to answer what the Tudor’s cultural and historical influences.  We will explore chronological knowledge of significant figures and events within the Tudor period such as Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake and Henry VII.

This will lead to children creating their own Tudor exhibition (in the style of a gallery opening with drinks and food) and inviting other classes to visit. But as much as possible we would like to also share our knowledge and learning experience with you. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zsgkwmn is a really good place to start for inside knowledge.

In maths, we are continuing to extend our understanding of multiplication and division for the next few weeks before we move onto measurement and fractions. And prepare yourselves, decimals are coming up at the end of this term!  At the end of term we gave out letters for times tables practice and it's always a great idea to go on My Maths or TT Rockstars to sharpen up your young person’s skills.

In science, we will be studying sound with a range of fun practical experiments. While in P.E., we have been working on our basketball skills, specifically passing, dribbling and shooting. We will also be going swimming this term, beginning on the 8thFebruary.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Autumn 1

This half term we are focusing on the exciting topic of The Romans and what they did for us after Julius Caesar and Emperor Claudius spied our shores. After taking part in a Roman Day we will use our knowledge to explore all aspects of Roman life and its impact on culture, architecture and invasion. To accompany this, we are reading The Rampaging Romans by acclaimed author Jeremy Strong, the story of Perilus and his desperate attempts to be a charioteer.  In Computing we are working to create an interactive PowerPoint and exploring how to effectively use search engines. In Science we are exploring about states of matter with special reference to the water cycle. In PE we are working on fitness challenges and thinking about tactics, techniques and fair play in invasion games.
