Summer 1
Suspence, cliffhangers and spooky description are all common themes this half term. Our book 'Tortured wood' will be taking the children to a dark and mysterious wood, which is definitley not what it seems... We are returning back to History term, delving into the thriving 'Edo Period' of Japan. In Science we are developing our roles as scientists, investigating numerous hypotheses about how everyday materials experience both reversible and irreversible changes. We will be continuing to develop our character muscles further, progressing our indepence, passion for learning and integrity.
Spring 2
Ready to step into a new world? This half term Y5 are stepping through the wadrobe to explore the magical land of Narnia. We have really been focusing on our ability to retell parts of a story from a characters perspective. In doing this, we have sucessfully created diary entries from the perspective of one of the main characters 'Lucy Pevensie'. In our Geography topic we have been exploring 'Turkey'. We have been comparing the climates and weather, creating detailed line graphs to show this. In maths we have been developing our fraction knowledge and are really starting to increase our fluency in this area.
Spring 1
Five, four, three, two, one… Lift off! This half term Y5 are blasting off into outer space! We are exploring the planets and stars in most of our subjects. In Literacy, we are exploring the life of the first man on the Moon, Neil Armstrong. In History, we are investigating why the Moon landing was so significant and seeing how space travel has developed. In Science, we are continuing our space theme and are travelling through the solar system and trying to answer exciting questions about our galaxy. We are continuing to use our character muscles to help us with our mission and exploration of the cosmos.
Autumn 2
Mission update: Y5 have been put to the test using their spy skills! Using our book Stormbreaker we have been investigating the life of a teenage spy's world. In Litercay we have been using our creativity character muscle to desgin and advertise the newest spy gadget. In maths we have looked at how our knowledge of multiplication can improve our understanding of ,multiples ,factors and prime numbers. In Science, we looked at plants and animals and how they come from varied habitats and have adapted to live in these specific environments.
Autumn 1
This half term we are focusing on Beowulf and the Anglo-Saxons. We have been exploring how their lives differed in 410AD to today. In Literacy we have written our own legends and we have been involved in lots active and interesting activities. In Maths we are looking at Place value and addition/subtraction. We have been working hard on our character muscles this term looking at: independence, cooperation and risk taking.

PE Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays
Please can children take out their earrings on their PE days and wear appropriate PE kit on these days.
